Terms of Service
📋 The short version
- Spentz is a read-only financial tool. We never move, hold, or manage your money.
- Spentz is not a licensed financial advisor. Nothing in the app is financial advice — it's information to help you make your own decisions.
- You must be 18 or older (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use Spentz.
- Subscriptions are billed through the App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple's standard policy.
- You own your data. We process it to run the app. You can delete everything at any time.
- Wyoming law governs these terms. Disputes go to binding arbitration, not court (unless you opt out).
01 Acceptance of terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you and Spentz LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company ("Spentz LLC", "we", "us", or "our"), governing your use of the Spentz mobile application, website at spentz.app, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By downloading, installing, or using Spentz, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you are using Spentz on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
02 Eligibility
To use Spentz, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher). Spentz requires a bank account and is not directed at minors.
- Have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract.
- Not be barred from receiving services under applicable law.
Spentz is currently available to residents of the United States. Bank connectivity via Plaid covers US-based financial institutions. Use of the Service from other jurisdictions is at your own risk and we make no representations that the Service complies with laws outside the US.
03 Your account
Creating an account
You must create an account to use Spentz. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep that information up to date.
Account security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. You agree to notify us immediately at hello@spentz.app if you suspect any unauthorised access to your account. We are not liable for any loss resulting from unauthorised use of your account.
One account per person
Each account is for individual personal use. You may not create accounts on behalf of others or share an account with other people.
Deleting your account
You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account within the app. Deletion is permanent. We will delete your personal data within 30 days, as described in our Privacy Policy.
04 The Service
What Spentz does
Spentz is a personal budgeting application that connects to your bank accounts via Plaid to retrieve transaction and balance data, and helps you understand your spending in relation to your financial goals. Key features include budget tracking, a pre-purchase check tool, recurring bill detection, and savings goal management.
Read-only access
Spentz has read-only access to your financial data. We cannot and do not initiate transactions, move money, pay bills, or perform any action on your accounts. We are not a bank, payment processor, or money transmitter.
Service availability
We aim to keep Spentz available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable during maintenance windows, due to third-party outages (including Plaid), or for reasons beyond our control. We will endeavour to communicate planned downtime in advance.
Changes to the Service
We may add, modify, or remove features at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes that affect existing functionality — typically via in-app notification or email.
05 Subscriptions & billing
Free tier
Spentz offers a free tier with limited features. No payment information is required to create a free account.
Paid subscription
Spentz Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription. Prices are displayed in the App Store at the time of purchase. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and conditions.
Billing and renewal
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
- Your Apple ID will be charged within 24 hours before the renewal date.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from Settings → Subscriptions in the iOS Settings app.
- Cancelling stops future renewals. You retain access to Pro features until the end of the current paid period.
Free trial
Where a free trial is offered, it begins on the date you start the trial and converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand. Cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
Refunds
All purchases are processed through the App Store. Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policy. We do not issue refunds directly. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
Price changes
We may change subscription prices with at least 30 days' notice. Price changes take effect at the start of your next renewal period. Continued use of the Service after a price change constitutes your acceptance of the new price.
06 Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any regulations
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the Service
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from the Service
- Use the Service to transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any portion of the Service or its infrastructure
- Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the Service
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent free tier limitations
Violation of these terms may result in immediate termination of your account.
07 Intellectual property
Our property
The Spentz name, logo, app design, code, features, and content are owned by or licensed to Spentz LLC and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
Your data
You retain ownership of all data you input into Spentz (budget amounts, goals, transaction reclassifications, and similar). By using the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to process, store, and use your data solely to provide and improve the Service. This licence terminates when you delete your account.
Feedback
If you submit feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service, you grant us the right to use that feedback without restriction or compensation to you. We are not obligated to act on any feedback.
08 Third-party services
Spentz integrates with third-party services including Plaid (bank connectivity), Supabase (infrastructure), RevenueCat (subscriptions), PostHog (analytics), Sentry (crash reporting), and Anthropic (AI features). These services have their own terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for the practices, content, or availability of third-party services. By using Spentz, you also agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, as Plaid's services are integral to the bank-connection functionality.
Links to third-party websites or services are provided for convenience only. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content or practices of any third-party site.
09 Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
- Transaction data retrieved via Plaid will be accurate, complete, or up to date
- Budget calculations, goal timelines, or spending projections will be accurate
- The Service will meet your specific requirements
- Any errors in the Service will be corrected
Financial data is retrieved from third-party sources (your banks, via Plaid) and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Always verify important financial decisions against your bank's own records.
Force majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms where such failure or delay results from events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: natural disasters, acts of government, pandemics, internet or telecommunications failures, third-party service outages (including Plaid, Supabase, or Apple), cyberattacks, power failures, or labour disputes.
10 Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PEBBLE LABS LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING UNDER THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) $100 USD.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for certain types of damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
11 Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Spentz LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service.
12 Termination
By you
You may stop using Spentz and delete your account at any time from within the app. Deletion of your account terminates these Terms, except for provisions that by their nature should survive termination.
By us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or if your use of the Service poses a risk to us, other users, or third parties. In cases of serious violation, we may terminate immediately without notice.
If we terminate your account without cause (i.e. not as a result of your violation of these Terms), and you hold an active paid subscription, we will issue a pro-rata credit or refund for the unused portion of your current billing period.
Effect of termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections covering disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and disputes survive termination.
13 Disputes & governing law
Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
Informal resolution
Before filing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at hello@spentz.app and attempt to resolve the matter informally. We will attempt to respond within 14 days.
Binding arbitration
If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitration will be conducted in English. The arbitrator's decision is final and binding.
Class action waiver
You agree that disputes will be resolved only on an individual basis. You waive any right to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or representative proceeding.
Opt-out
You may opt out of binding arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing hello@spentz.app with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and your name and email address. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming.
Exception — small claims
Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies, as an alternative to arbitration.
14 Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or in-app notification at least 14 days before the new Terms take effect.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and delete your account.
Prior versions of these Terms are available on request at hello@spentz.app.
15 General provisions
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. All remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Spentz LLC regarding the Service and supersede all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, warranties, and understandings, whether written or oral.
Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by Spentz LLC to be effective.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
